# THE AMERICA FIRST MOVEMENT — WEBSITE PACKAGE

Research/editorial snapshot: November 4, 2026. This is a static site with no accounts or database.

## Files
- `index.html`: Homepage.
- `people.html`: Four profiles.
- `thomas-massie.html`, `james-fishback.html`, `anna-paulina-luna.html`, `rand-paul.html`: Individual profiles.
- `newsroom.html`: Searchable and filterable locally authored newsroom.
- `issues.html`: Issue comparisons.
- `timeline.html`: Phrase history.
- `sources.html`: Citations and standards.
- `about.html`: Founder statement.
- `assets/`: Logo, four uploaded portraits, favicon.
- `style.css` and `script.js`: Shared styles and interactions.

## Preview locally
Double-click `index.html` after extracting the ZIP. Keep `assets/`, CSS, and JS in the same relative folder structure. Or use the standalone all-in-one HTML preview file provided separately. The packaged website does not require a build step. Fonts are loaded from Google Fonts when online but have system fallbacks.

## Publish on a static hosting provider
Option A: Netlify. Create a new site using the drag-and-drop deploy screen; upload the extracted folder contents (including index.html and assets/). It will issue a temporary site URL; follow its domain configuration to attach a domain that you own.
Option B: GitHub Pages. Create a repository with the contents of this directory at its root, then enable Pages from the main branch root. Your site URL will be shown in the Pages settings.
Option C: Cloudflare Pages. Create a Pages project and upload the directory. No framework/build command required.
For a custom domain, buy a domain from a registrar, connect it to your chosen host by following host-specific DNS instructions, and enable HTTPS. An account and domain are not created by this package.

## Update the newsroom
Open `newsroom.html` in a code editor. Copy an existing `<article class="article-card" ...>` block and update: article ID; `data-cat` to one of election results, public record, policy explainer, history, publication update; lowercased `data-search`; date; headline; body; and source URL links. Keep source labels honest and hyperlinks to originals. Add a link to it from the homepage if featured. The newsroom search runs in the visitor's browser; there is no live RSS feed or automatic verification.

## Updating candidate information
As elections approach, use state election authorities and FEC candidate filings. Record the election year and date, and do not label someone as a current candidate without a filing or announcement. Verify voting and bill records at Congress.gov and the House/Senate websites. Update every 'Research snapshot' label and any stale claims.

## Public launch checklist
1. Confirm rights to republish each of the four supplied portraits. Fishback Wikimedia photo is CC BY-SA 4.0 if this is the same photograph; attribution/license terms still apply.
2. Verify each source link opens and the claims have not changed.
3. Test on phone and desktop; test menu, news search and every navigation link.
4. Choose a domain and host; point DNS and confirm HTTPS.
5. Add a contact/editorial corrections address when you are ready to receive messages. Do not publish personal contact details you do not want public.
6. Add a privacy policy before using analytics, forms, trackers, cookies, or mailing lists. No analytics are included by default.
7. Keep founder opinions clearly labeled and separate from factual reporting.

This project is an independent informational website, not an official political campaign or party site.

## Expanded newsroom, national debt and foreign policy pages
- `debt.html`: latest official Treasury debt amount, fetched live on page load with a Refresh button. No invented per-second counter, no fabricated fallback value. Requires an internet-connected browser and Treasury API availability / CORS access.
- `foreign-aid.html`: CRS Israel cumulative nominal aid; selected FY2025 obligations from ForeignAssistance.gov; war-cost context, foreign-aid policy arguments and clearly marked founder opinion. Never merge financial accounting categories.
- `voting.html`: nonpartisan U.S. civic participation resource.
- `newsroom.html`: expanded with U.S. national affairs briefs, including fiscal oversight, foreign aid and civic participation. Still manually updated; not a live news feed.

### Editorial requirements
1. Add new nationally relevant news only after checking a current primary source and dating the entry.
2. Do not report policy opinions as settled facts; label the founder's opinion separately.
3. Refresh dated aid figures when new annual ForeignAssistance.gov/CRS reports arrive.
4. Do not call proposed appropriations the same as actual disbursements. Some U.S. aid involves domestic purchases, loan programs and multiyear obligations.
5. Debt API is the only remotely fetched dynamic statistic in this package; headline cards are not auto-updated.

## Debt tracker fix (2026-11-04)
The debt page now shows a clearly labeled October 21, 2026 backup amount immediately. On load and when Refresh is clicked it attempts a Treasury Fiscal Data API query, with an 8.5-second timeout. When reached, the page replaces the backup with the latest published Treasury record and date. On blocked/failed API calls, the date-stamped backup stays visible. A preview under file:// may block cross-origin fetch; a hosted page is more likely to obtain live API data. Do not call the backup live.

## November 2026 content addition
- foreign-aid.html: FY2025 $3.8B illustrative domestic reallocation scenario. All categories are hypothetical and not estimates of outcomes; includes counterarguments and sources.
- thomas-massie.html: Founder-opinion panel about a possible presidential run, plus neutral experience/positions/tradeoffs. Does NOT assert candidacy or recommend voting for anyone.
- Update figures, candidacy status, and sources before publishing during a future election cycle.
